I am going to talk about my story of development: a story that changes me and made me think about my financial literacy. I come from a middle-class family and I never had a bad time, but unfortunately, I became addicted to gambling.
When I first entered a betting center, I felt thrills all over my body. An hour later, I was less than sixty pounds. But even though I was ashamed of losing my money, I couldn't forget the feeling of euphoria. Since then, I've always tried to feel it again.
After I became addicted to gambling, my debts began to build up. Now that I look back, I could have made a fortune and it still wouldn't have been enough.
My addiction was horse racing betting. I started the day with bets on individual races, after which I switched to higher bets, hoping that I would recover what I had lost in the individual races. Countless times, I bet the last penny, even though I had nothing to eat - I was obsessed with winning.
Deep down, I knew I had a problem, but I never realized how addicted I was. I borrowed money from family members, friends, and job colleagues. I was working hard to get my money back. Sometimes I won a lot of money at once and could pay off debts. And that made me bet even more. I always wanted more, much more. But one day, I lost the link with reality and could make any job. I just set there and bet again and again losing the last dollars. I stopped and looked at myself in the mirror. I saw a tired man with crazy eyes.
Then I just walked away and started all over again. A new life. The first thing I’ve done was recover my post in the organization I worked. Then I got a single loan to consolidate all my debts in one installment payment. I just couldn’t miss it. So, I got a loan from direct lenders that work with people like me and paid all my debts in several months.
This could change your perception of me but I am glad I talked about it. Thank you for your support and kind words.
